Winter in Livigno is “powerful”: the vast expanse of snow that blankets the valley is a paradise for alpine skiing enthusiasts. Here, they can indulge their passion across 115 kilometers of slopes, suitable for all skill levels, at an altitude of nearly 3,000 meters.
Those who want to fully enjoy a day in one of the mountain gems of Alta Valtellina can start as early as dawn: every Tuesday morning, from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m., the Sunrise Emotion & Luxury Breakfast takes place at the Sitas Ski Area. This alpine experience allows guests to ski on freshly groomed, pristine slopes while the valley is still asleep, followed by a delightful international breakfast at high altitude at Rifugio Costaccia, a historic institution in Livigno.
After a boost of adrenaline and energy, the expansive ski area awaits skiers eager to make the most of their day. This is made even easier by the free Skilink service, which allows visitors to travel from one side of the valley to the other by shuttle, enabling them to explore as many slopes as possible. It is one of the free public transport options provided by the Municipality of Livigno, which has always aimed to offer the best services to tourists and residents alike. With 55 bus stops spread throughout the town, visitors can explore the area effortlessly and in complete comfort..
The morning is spent gliding down and riding up the 74 slopes—served by 6 gondolas (Carosello 3000 I and II, Mottolino, Livigno Centro Tagliede I and II, Cassana), 14 chairlifts, and 12 ski lifts—suitable for every skill level.
It’s then time to enjoy a traditional mountain lunch at a cozy alpine refuge, taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding alpine panorama. Camanel di Planon, located in the heart of the Mottolino ski area, serves the most iconic dishes of Livigno and Valtellina’s culinary tradition, alongside Italian and international options. Guests can savor their meal on the outdoor terraces or in the warm wooden dining rooms of the refuge, adorned with elements reminiscent of a traditional Livigno home.
The afternoon is once again spent with ski boots strapped on and skis ready to glide: adults and children, professionals and amateurs alike can enjoy themselves and give their best on the slopes, thanks to the wide variety of trails designed for different skill levels.
The 29 blue slopes are easy to navigate, with gentle inclines, making them perfect for those trying winter sports for the first time. One standout is the Bellavista slope in the Sitas Ski Area, popular among beginners for its accessible terrain and breathtaking views of the entire valley.
For those more comfortable with skiing and steeper inclines, the 37 red slopes, such as the one in the Mottolino Ski Area, offer the perfect playground. Meanwhile, thrill-seekers and expert skiers can challenge themselves on the 12 black slopes, designed for pure adrenaline. A prime example is the Zuelli slope in the Carosello 3000 Ski Area, which boasts a thrilling 1,000-meter vertical drop. Its famous final wall will even host some of the competitions during the 2026 Winter Olympics.
To perfectly wrap up a day of skiing, the après-ski experience is an absolute must, best enjoyed right on the slopes. Stalet, located at Carosello 3000, is the largest après-ski venue in the entire Livigno mountain resort. It attracts young people and adults from all over Europe, who come together to dance, enjoy drinks with friends, and watch live performances and musical shows.
It’s the ultimate “happy ending” to a day in the ski area, with views of the snow-covered valley at sunset and a carefree moment of conviviality to savor the spirit of the mountains.
