Livigno and the 1000 Miglia: when passion serves beauty

The most iconic race in the world starts in Brescia and will cross Italy, bringing its unmistakable style and uniqueness to the roads of our country.

Livigno, 11.06.2024 - From Brescia to Rome, back and forth, passing through Bergamo, Turin, Genoa, Viareggio, Orvieto, Siena, Prato and Ferrara, for five days of absolute beauty on four wheels, the hallmark of one of the most celebrated and recognised races in the world, which has been a symbol of Italy and international motor sport for almost 100 years. The event was born in Brescia, Italy, in 1927, thanks to the ambition of Aymo Maggi, Renzo Castagneto, Franco Mazzotti and Giovanni Canestrini, known as the four musketeers of the 1000 Miglia, who in response to the failure to award the Italian Grand Prix to their hometown, decided to establish the granfondo. The race immediately broke into the hearts of enthusiasts, because of its beauty and uniqueness, and thus became, for thirty years, until 1957, a fixture on the calendar of all the riders in the world.

Since 1977, the revolution, with the 1000 Miglia being transformed into a regularity race, whose participation is limited only to cars produced before the 1960s and which have taken part in at least one of the historic editions of the speed race, those run between its foundation and 1957. An ingenious idea, extraordinarily ambitious, and one that requires boundless passion to repeat, at this level, year after year, putting true unique pieces of art and design in motion on the road. A noble effort, made in the name of historicity and beauty, and whose roots go back to an important value bouquet, which makes sustainable sports tourism, respect for the past and one's origins, and healthy, open competition its cornerstones.

For Livigno, official partner of the event, to believe in a project of this magnitude means to see reflected in it a piece of its identity and its idea of sport, understood as an instrument of cohesion and collective well-being, values that have always guided the work of the resort. A country that is preparing to live the Five Circles Olympic experience, another great challenge of the near future, and that from unique and stimulating experiences such as the 1000 Miglia can and must draw inspiration, as much in terms of organisational ambition as in the pursuit of beauty.

Also for the Games, in fact, the main objective will be to build a strong, lasting legacy, which is generated by the arrival of a magnificent sporting event on the territory, but which is then realised in a long and very long-term sustainability. Both in environmental terms and in economic and social terms. Exactly as demonstrated by the extraordinary parable of the 1000 Miglia, a race of enormous historical importance that, while respecting its past, continues to redefine the contours of its future.
