Enjoy a trekking on "Tee trail"
In Livigno it is possible to walk along the "Tee trail", surrounded by the foliage of the trees that act as a natural shelter. The path leads trekkers to the discovery of small huts and barns typical of Livigno's tradition, once the shepherds' summer homes, and nowadays largely renovated. The departure is from Pont de la Calcheira at 1846m, from here crossing dirt tracks and paths immersed in nature, it is possible to enjoy an enchanting panoramic route halfway up the mountainside, protected by the majestic larches. Among the most beautiful tees on this trail are Tea da Taglieda, Tea del Pel, and the Tea da Borch refreshment point.
The route continues across the valley and up the opposite side towards the lake, crossing the area of Teola and descending towards the lake after meeting the Tee di Pemont, Desjana and del Brun. The cycle path that runs along the shores of the lake returns to Pont de la Calcheira. This trail also offers a beautiful view of Livigno and the possibility of entering the village directly in case of bad weather, or at the numerous huts that offer restaurants and bar service, where you can find shelter. For those who like to walk in the rain, the suggestive Art Trail or the Pedestrian and cycle path are ideal alternatives.
A dive into the past at the MUS!
Livigno is not only nature and sport: an important part of everyday life in the Little Tibet is also history and culture, which enrich the visitors' stay with a series of peculiarities to be discovered. The Mus!, the ethnographic museum of Livigno and Trepalle, accompanies the visitor in the discovery of the past of this territory to understand the dynamics that led it from a quiet farming village to a lively tourist centre. Through the faithful reconstruction of domestic environments and interesting thematic sections, the museum bears witness to the spirit of adaptation and the art of making do with little, which have always distinguished the people of Livigno and Trepalle.
Housed in an old wooden and masonry house, the ethnographic museum traces its roots back to the end of the 18th century. The museum can be visited with a guide or independently, thanks to the information panels in each room and the practical audio guide, a free app that visitors can download directly onto their smartphones. During the summer period, visitors can take part in a visit to some of the area's churches to discover, for example, the Church of San Rocco on 11 August and the Church of S. Maria Nascente on 18 August.
Discovering rural traditions
A stay in Livigno is also a valuable opportunity to learn something new: young and old can explore the world of rural traditions in the context of the "malghe", authentic holiday farms. A visit to the calf barn at the Malga Vago allows you to experience the art of milking, from Monday to Thursday until 7 September, where guests will also have the opportunity to give the calves a drink. Moreover, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, after the milking and the visit to the dairy, it will be possible to taste the best of the Livigno's tradition tasting the breakfast with the products of "Tast", the project created by the Association of Chefs and Pastry Chefs of Livigno to know closely the most authentic tastes and products of the tradition.
The farmer's day is also a fantastic experience to live the life of the farmer in a typical alpine hut. The activity starts at 17.00 at the Malga Federia with the milking and the sheltering of the animals in the stable. This is followed by a typical dinner characterised by appetising dishes and genuine zero-kilometre ingredients, and an overnight stay in the malga. The next morning, after waking up at dawn, the animals will be grazed and breakfast will be served. The activity ends late in the morning with the return to the valley.
Finally, the visit to the dairy is a morning dedicated to the discovery of milk, accompanied by a local person: it begins with a special visit to some of the rooms of the Mus! where ancient objects from the processing of milk and its derivatives are kept. Here you can learn more about the history of milk as a source of sustenance and the cornerstone of an agricultural economy that still survives today. The tour continues to the Livigno Dairy, where the dairy production and innovative machinery can be seen up close.
